Gavin Bazunu set a new Irish record on Monday night as he and his nation beat Gibraltar 4-0 in Euros qualifying.

Gavin Bazunu started the game for Ireland and kept a clean sheet in the 4-0 thrashing.

But he also set a new record the the national team in the process of making his 20th cap.

He became the youngest Irish goalkeeper, aged just 21 and 239 days, to reach the 20-cap mark for Ireland according to Hampshire Live.

Bazunu was joined on the field by his Southampton teammate Ryan Manning who played a very good game.

Bazunu looks good in a quiet game

Bazunu played the entire 90 minutes for Ireland and had little to do as Gibraltar failed to create much.

Gibraltar had just 25% possession which amounted to four shots on goal.

Bazunu completed 70% of his passes and 100% of his aerial duels.

Probably one of the easiest games he’s ever going to have to play, but in fairness he barely put a foot wrong in doing so.

Continues to impress

Bazunu has been really impressive this season in the Championship for the Saints.

Goalkeepers don’t usually come into their own at 21-years-old but Bazunu seems to be reaching a high level already.

In season two of his Southampton career he’s now fully established and many will be keen that he continues to impress.
