Southampton shipped seven players out on loan for the 2023/24 campaign. So how are they all getting on at their respective clubs?
Following relegation to the Championship last season, Southampton had to move on a lot of their squad to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
As such, 19 players departed St Mary’s in total, so Russell Martin was tasked with a difficult job of reshaping pretty much the entire team.
The former Swansea City boss has certainly done an adequate job but as it stands, his side will have to compete in the play-offs if they are to make an instant return to the Premier League.
As we enter the final stretch of the gruelling 46-game campaign, attention will start to turn towards the summer transfer window and who could potentially re-enter the fold from their loan deals.
Southampton News have complied a loan report of each player including statistics that will be updated up until June. All data will be sourced from Transfermarkt and FotMob.
Southampton loanees 2023/24
Armel Bella-Kotchap (on loan to PSV)

- Appearances: 9
- Goals: 0
- Assists: 0
- FotMob Eredivisie rating: 6.94
Armel Bella-Kotchap was loaned out to Dutch giants PSV at the start of the season.
The Germany international has been on the sidelines for much of the campaign due to a shoulder injury which has plagued him in the past.
So given the fact he’s made just three starts, it’s hard to judge his loan thus far. The 22-year-old is now back from the treatment table and made his first league appearance since October last week.
Carlos Alcaraz (on loan to Juventus)

- Appearances: 4
- Goals: 0
- Assists: 1
Saints shipped Carlos Alcaraz on loan to Juventus in the January transfer window. The Serie A outfit inserted a £40m option to buy in his contract, as per The Athletic.
The 2002-born midfielder has made four appearances since making the switch but is now expected to miss the next two weeks of action due to a hamstring injury.
During his brief tenure in Italy, Alcaraz has laid on one assist in a 2-1 defeat to Napoli.
Paul Onuachu (on loan to Trabzonspor)

- Appearances: 18
- Goals: 9
- Assists: 3
- FotMob Super Lig rating: 7.43
Saints outlaid £18m on the signature of Paul Onuachu just over a year ago but having made little impact in his 12 appearances, he went out on loan to Super Lig team Trabzonspor last summer.
The towering centre-forward has enjoyed a productive spell in Turkey and may end up staying there if the two clubs can agree a fee.
With Adam Armstrong and Che Adams the preferred forwards for Martin, it seems as though Onuachu will have to move on permanently at the end of the season, anyhow.
Romain Perraud (on loan to OGC Nice)

- Appearances: 16
- Goals: 0
- Assists: 0
- FotMob Ligue 1 rating: 6.22
Romain Perraud signed for OGC Nice at the start of the season on a loan deal with an option to buy for a fee of less than €10m (£8.5m), as per nice-matin.
Though, it doesn’t appear likely that he’ll remain at the Ligue 1 club beyond this term, as he’s yet to make his first league start.
The 26-year-old has been reduced to a bit part role and is behind first-choice left-back Marvin Bard in the pecking order.
Duje Caleta-Car (on loan to Lyon)

- Appearances: 19
- Goals: 0
- Assists: 0
- FotMob Ligue 1 rating: 6.68
Southampton only signed Duje Caleta-Car in 2022 but he’s spending this season away from St Mary’s at Lyon.
The 23-cap Croatia international was in and out of the starting line-up at the start of the campaign but of late, he’s been a fixture.
Lyon have a €5.69m (£4.8m) option to buy on Caleta-Car and given his growing importance, it appears likely they’ll active the clause this summer.
Lyanco (on loan to Al-Gharafa SC)

- Appearances: 6
- Goals: 0
- Assists: 1
Lyanco is currently on loan at Qatar Stars League side Al-Gharafa SC and is due to return to the South Coast in June.
The former Torino centre-back has seen his minutes reduced due to an unknown injury. His side are currently second in the league, three points adrift of table toppers Al Sadd.
Mateusz Lis (on loan to Goztepe)

- Appearances: 25
- Clean sheets: 16
Mateusz Lis, who is yet to make a senior appearance for Southampton, is enjoying a fruitful loan spell in Turkey’s second division with Goztepe.
The 27-year-old started all but one game for the second-placed outfit, who look well-placed to gain promotion to the Super Lig.
