Southampton’s standout performer has been heavily linked with a departure this summer, and now has reportedly spoken with Jurgen Klopp.

Southampton have been braced for the departure of Romeo Lavia following relegation to the Championship, some of England’s biggest clubs have been showing interest.

Liverpool are amongst the clubs interested, the Reds have been undergoing open heart surgery this summer, completely transplanting their midfield with the arrival’s of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

However it is thought they aren’t done, with Klopp now wanting Lavia to complete his trio. According to Spanish journalist Sacha Tavolieri who claims that Liverpool are awaiting Jordan Henderson’s departure before making their move for Lavia. But the Belgian talent has already spoken with Klopp and is keen on a move to Anfield.

Lavia speaks with Jurgen Klopp

The 19-time League champions have made their midfield the priority this summer after a year of struggles with an ageing core.

Lavia would complete their dream midfield, filling in at the 6 role behind Mac Allister and ‘Szobo’, despite Lavia likely not being perfect for that role due to his preference to be on the ball opposed to a ball-winner.

Lavia has been the subject of interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United this summer but it now appears the Reds have won the race with the others turning their attentions to other signings.

It has been claimed by Tavolieri that Lavia and Klopp have already discussed the move and both are keen on making it a reality.

He tweeted, “Been told Liverpool FC waiting for Jordan Henderson final word about Al Ettifaq FC before sending first bid for Romeo Lavia. Belgian player talked to Jürgen Klopp and wants to play for the Reds.

“Reds truly believe he is definitely a big prospect for the future and was waiting for making space in the midfield in order to make a step forward. Personal terms not a problem anymore.”

Shea Charles a ready made replacement?

New Saints star, Shea Charles, has been signed and will likely play the same position as Lavia despite their different qualities.

Charles possesses more traditional defensive qualities in the midfield while also having the technical ability to be an on the ball force.

This could represent a style change for Southampton under Russell Martin who clearly has prioritised solidifying his defence, which is what plagued the Saints last season.
