Southampton have had plenty of managers over the years, with varying degrees of success.
Some have been at the club for long extended periods, while others have been shown the door after only a brief time in charge.
However, there is only one that has guided the Saints to a major trophy to date.
That is of course, Lawrie McMenemy. Back in 1976, Southampton stunned Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup final, to lift a major trophy for the only time in their history to date.
At the time, the Saints were still a second-tier team, and United had been the clear favourites to claim the trophy.
McMenemy though, was able to mastermind an upset in that final, that has gone down in club folklore.
Now it seems as though another long-serving Southampton figure, believes that ought to mean McMenemy is considered the very best to have ever taken charge of the Saints.
Matt Le Tissier names Lawrie McMenemy his best Southampton manager
Like McMeney, Matt Le Tissier has also made a big impression for Southampton over the years.
Between 1986 and 2002, the former attacker made well over 500 appearances for the Saints, scoring more than 200 goals.
He evidently still has a strong interest in the club, and possesses an admiration for the work done by McMenemy.

During a QandA on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Le Tissier was asked who he believes to be the best ever Southampton manager.
Responding to that question, he said: ‘Lawrie McMenemy, only one to win us a major trophy’.
Hard to argue with this choice from Matt Le Tissier
It does feel as though Matt Le Tissier has made a fair decision with his selection of Lawrie McMenemy here.
A major trophy is an immense source of pride for a club, and something supporters can look back on even now.
It is only because of the work done by Lawrie McMenemy, that those connected with Southampton are able to do that.
That alone deserves plenty of recognition. However, it should also be noted he was at the club for 12 years, and did plenty more in that time.
Under Lawrie McMenemy, Southampton also won promotion back to the top-flight of English football. They then went on to record their highest ever position of second in the top-flight, while he was still in charge.
Beyond that, there was also a memorable run to the final of the League Cup, in 1979.
So with everything that Lawrie McMenemy did for Southampton, you can certainly see why he might be considered the club’s best ever manager.
