Southampton will be looking to move back in the Championship automatic promotion places on Tuesday night.

The Saints host Hull City in what is a game in hand over Leeds United in the race for second in the table.

Victory against the Tigers would move Russell Martin’s side back above the Whites, with both sides having played the same number of games in the regular season.

With Hull City themselves chasing a spot in the Championship play-offs, this will be a challenging assignment for the hosts.

However, Martin has now revealed some positive team news that will boost Southampton ahead of that game.

Che Adams back for Southampton vs Hull City

One of the players who the Saints have been unable to call upon in their past two games, is Che Adams.

The striker picked up a calf injury in Southampton’s 5-3 win over Huddersfield Town just over a week ago. He has since missed the games with Bristol City and West Brom. That has been a loss for Martin, who previously described Adams as a ‘really good player’ this season.

However, he could return against Hull City. Now it seems as though Martin is optimistic with regards to the fitness of the trio, and where it leaves his squad in terms of option.

Providing an update on his side ahead of that game with Hull City, the Southampton boss confirmed to the The Daily Echo: “Che is back tomorrow.”

Discussing the impact of Adams’ return, Martin added: “It’s nice to have Che back and if we have Flynn (Downes) back as well that will be nice, but he’s very, very close.”

Che Adams update a welcome boost for Saints

This is obviously going to be good news for Southampton ahead of that clash with Hull City.

We are now heading into a crucial period of the season, where the battle for automatic promotion could well be decided.

Southampton therefore, are going to need all of their top performers fit and available, if they are to keep pace with the likes of Leeds United.

Adams, is one player who does fit into that category. The striker has scored ten goals and provided four assists for the Saints this season.

Only Adam Armstrong has a better tally, so having Adams back and close to fitness can only be a positive, in terms of maintaing a threat in front of goal between now and the end of the season.

Indeed, this will also give Martin more scope to rotate his side over the remainder of the campaign, reducing the risk of further damaging injury blows.

As a result, on the back of Friday night’s win over West Brom, this injury update should also further enhance the positvity around Southampton ahead of this clash with Hull City.
