Southampton academy star, Dom Ballard has been nominated for August’s Premier League Two’s player of the month.

The forward has now completed a loan move to Reading for the season where he is yet to make his debut for the Royals.

For the Saints’ youth side, he scored a hattrick in two games at the start of the season.

This form saw him called up to the England under 19s team during the international break, with games against Germany and Switzerland.

He was given the captaincy of his national side and scored his first goal as England won 4-2 against the Swiss.

The forward has been nominated with Yago Alonso, Jamie Donley, Martial Godo, Mark O’Mahony, Sam Paul, Ronnie Stutter, Jayden Wareham.

There is stern competition but with six goals in two games, he can be hopeful of winning the award.

What has Dom Ballard said?

When discussing a move to League One, regular game time was one reason.

Discussing his hopes for the season, he Ballard said: “Hopefully I come with goals – that’s what the manager wants from me.

“I want to take Reading back up. I could be playing development football but I want to push myself. To play against men is much more challenging.”

It is clear the youngster has a great mindset and will hopefully push on and make his mark on the side in the future.
