Southampton star Ryan Fraser has revealed what manager Russell Martin told the team at half time in their 1-0 win away at Millwall.

Fraser scored in the third minute of injury time on Saturday afternoon to extend Saints’ unbeaten run to seven games.

It is also Fraser’s second injury-time winner in four games after he scored in the fifth minute of injury time to secure an away win at Hull City last month.

Southampton are currently sitting in fourth place in the Championship and closed the gap on the automatic spots by two points after Ipswich Town drew at Birmingham City.

Speaking to Hampshire Live, Fraser revealed what Martin said at the half time interval that led to the win.

“I think the game in the first half was tough, they made it really difficult for us. It was really narrow, we obviously like to play through the thirds and in the middle a little bit more, but this is how good Russell Martin is as a manager.

“He got the boys in at half-time and he told us a way to get around that and the change from that half-time team talk, to have that dominance in the second half is so hard. I think he just gave us that little structure change and that’s what happened and we’ve managed to get that goal at the end and celebrate with the fans again and just amazing feelings.”

Martin instils confidence in his players

This just shows how good of a manager Russell Martin is.

His game management skills were shown, with his tactical changes made at half time managing to directly impact the result.

With the players recognising how good he is, it will only instil more confidence in the team.
