Southampton make the trip to North London on Saturday as they seek an unlikely first Premier League win of the season against Arsenal.

Russell Martin‘s side go into the game 19th in the Premier League on just one point and fresh off the back of a humbling 3-1 defeat against Bournemouth.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are third in the league and look every bit ready to launch another title challenge as they are yet to lose a game.

Southampton will have to improve astronomically from the dismal performance against Bournemouth to have any chance of getting a result at Arsenal.

Martin was left bemused by the lack of fight from his Southampton players against the Cherries and will be hoping for a battling display against the Gunners.

Southampton injury news for Arsenal clash

Martin will continue to be without goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu with the stopper set to be out until well into 2025 with the Achilles injury he sustained in April.

Martin confirmed in his pre-Arsenal press conference that winger Kamaldeen Sulemana also remains sidelined having not featured since sustaining an injury against Oxford United in pre-season.

Sulemana should be back in training after the international break and Martin confirmed that the prognosis is the same for Will Smallbone who has not featured since returning from Ireland duty with an injury in the last international break.

Ross Stewart made his longest appearance for Southampton since signing last summer against Bournemouth as the striker looks to build his fitness after an injury nightmare.

Whilst not injured, Jack Stephens is also unavailable after seeing his suspension for the red card challenge he made in the 3-0 defeat against Manchester United extended by a further two matches for foul and abusive language towards the officials.

Whilst Martin has little to worry about on the injury front, the same cannot be said for Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal will definitely be without captain Martin Odegaard on Saturday as he remains sidelined with the ankle injury he picked up whilst playing for Norway.

Kieran Tierney is not in Arteta’s plans but is also out, whilst Oleksandr Zinchenko is also expected to miss this one.

Right-back Ben White has missed the last couple of games with a groin injury and remains a doubt for the visit of Southampton which will be concerning for Arteta as Jurrien Timber came off early with a muscle issue against PSG in midweek.

That substitution may well have been merely a precaution but Timber could also sit out the Saints clash.

Arsenal were boosted by Mikel Merino making his debut against PSG after getting injured in his first training session after signing in the summer and he could again feature on Saturday.
