Southampton turn their attention back to the Championship promotion race on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints secured a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Tuesday night, with a 3-0 win over Watford.

Now, it is Huddersfield Town who are set to take on Russell Martin‘s side at St Mary’s. Victory for the hosts would see them retain second place in the current Championship table.

The Terriers meanwhile, are battling to avoid relegation at the opposite end of the standings. They will be looking to build on a 4-0 thumping of fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday last time out.

But with Southampton chasing promotion, they will no doubt be an entirely different proposition for their opponents.

Latest Southampton team news

The Saints will once again be without Joe Aribo on Saturday. The midfielder is part of Nigeria’s AFCON squad that have made the final of that tournament on Sunday.

As a result, he will be unavailable for Southampton this weekend. Meanwhile, James Bree, Juan Larios and Ross Stewart all look set to miss out. However, Kamaldeen Sulemana is in line to return to the squad.

How Russell Martin might line-up vs Huddersfield Town

Having made numerous changes for that win in the FA Cup in midweek, Martin may revert to a more senior line-up for the clash with the Terriers.

Joe Lumley was in goal against Watford, but Gavin Bazunu will likely return between the posts on Saturday afternoon.

The back four ought to see the more experienced full-back options of Kyle Walker-Peters and Ryan Manning come back into the starting XI.

They could take the places of the younger duo of Shea Charles and Jayden Meghoma. Taylor Harwood-Bellis may also return in the centre of defence, alongside the near ever-present Jan Bednarek.

Stuart Armstrong could come back into the centre of midfield, having been rested at the weekend. Flynn Downes and Will Smallbone have been regularly called upon in the league this season, so should keep their places from the midweek win.

In attack, Stewart’s absence should mean that Che Adams continues to lead the line. Having netted a well-taken brace against Watford, Sekou Mara may have done enough to stake a claim for a rare start in the Championship this season.

Top scorer Adam Armstrong will surely also come back into the starting XI, having dropped to the bench for the FA Cup in midweek.
