Southampton have had a nightmare start to the season as they currently sit in 15th position in the league.
With just 10 points took from a possible 24, they find themselves 11 points off automatic promotion.
This is a huge amount so early with no end to the bad form in sight either, many are predicting trouble for the Saints and Russell Martin.
To make matters worse, Southampton have now lose four on the bounce with a few hammerings too.
A 5-0 loss to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light was followed by a 4-1 loss to Leicester at St Marys.
Ipswich and Middlesbrough have also beaten Southampton which leaves the future of Martin on a knifes edge.
Here are three reasons it’s gone so badly…

Defensively leaky
The biggest reason Southampton were relegated was their defensive which was the worst in the division.
But instead of strengthening here, arguably they’ve gotten weaker and it shows.
No clean sheets through eight league games and even conceding three to Gillingham in the cup.
Not enough goal threat
In the sides last four games, only two goals have been scored with 12 conceded.
Two goals is not enough and no matter how good the defence could hypothetically be, they don’t score anyway.
Martin needs to find a goal threat from somewhere before it becomes too late for him.
Poor transfer window
Southampton had the worst window of all the relegated sides as their talent pool was raided.
Romeo Lavia, Tino Livramento, James Ward-Prowse, Nathan Tella, Mohammed Salisu, Moussa Djenepo, Mislav Orsic, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Duje Caleta-Car and Paul Onuachu all left the club, with the first five being for huge fees.
In response to this exodus and transfer kitty boost, only Shea Charles and Ross Stewart were signed for fees, with Ryan Manning and Joe Lumley joining for free.
The rest were loans for youngsters but the point is, this isn’t good enough, Leicester lost most of their stars but rebuilt completely and now look set to get promoted.
