Tyler Dibling is the talk of Southampton after the 18-year-old scored his first senior goal in the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Saturday.

The huge clash against Ipswich was just Tyler Dibling‘s second league start at any level and he earned the opportunity after excelling despite Southampton losing 3-0 to Manchester United on his full Premier League debut.

That performance put Dibling on the radar of those outside of Southampton and Russell Martin knows he has a real gem on his hands.

The Saints are keen to tie Dibling down to an improved contract with Manchester United themselves one of a host of clubs who have had their interest piqued by the youngster and his goal after just five minutes against Ipswich has only increased the speculation.

Gabby Agbonlahor and Jeff Stelling agree on Southampton star Tyler Dibling

Dibling has already left Southampton once having moved to Chelsea in summer 2022 but returned to the south coast just over a month later having not enjoyed the experience.

This could be a factor in any decision Dibling makes on his future, as he may place higher value on his environment than another young player might.

Two people that have certainly been left impressed by the teenager’s start to life in the Premier League are Jeff Stelling and Gabby Agbonlahor, with the pair discussing Dibling on TalkSPORT on Monday morning (9:27am).

Stelling said: “By the way, just a quick one on Southampton and Tyler Dibling. What a prospect he looks!

“He was brilliant last week against Manchester United and he followed that up with his first Premier League goal against Ipswich. Fantastic.”

Agbonlahor agreed before making a tongue in cheek claim about the attacking midfielder, adding: “Yeah he was really good he was, I think Villa will get him in January for £30m!”

Southampton best place for Dibling currently

Whilst the interest will be flattering for Dibling, Martin will hope the player feels that Southampton is the best place to continue his development.

Dibling is playing Premier League football at 18 which is something that simply would not happen at a number of other clubs; especially ones in a relegation dogfight as Southampton are.

At a club like Manchester United Dibling would simply be one of many, whereas at Southampton he is being handed real responsibility in a team that suits his talents.

Martin knows he must be careful not to place too much pressure on Dibling too soon but if he continues his fine performances then it will be hard for the Saints boss to justify bringing the talented left-footer out of the side.
