Southampton have confirmed the signing of Zach Awe from Arsenal who is set to link up with the Saints’ under 21’s.
A training compensation fee will have to be paid, but no transfer fee is involved in the deal.
The 19-year-old made 27 appearances for the Gunners’ under 21’s last season, competing in the EFL Trophy against men’s sides.
What has Zach Awe said?
Speaking with Southampton Media, Awe is clearly happy with the move: “It’s amazing, it’s something I have been looking forward to for a very long time.
“Leaving Arsenal and seeing how Southampton play under Russell [Martin] and the plan, I’m very excited to join.”

The Southampton u21’s team won the Premier League Division Two last season, a factor that played it’s part in Awe swapping North London for the coast.
“They won the league last year so it will be good to be part of that group and help improve the team and win some more games.”
In a goodbye message to Arsenal on Instagram Awe said: “I feel that it is my time to move on and I am excited about the journey ahead.”
What will Zach Awe add to Southampton?
Academy Director, Andy Goldie, was pleased to have got this deal over the line feeling Awe is a great talent to add to their squad.
“He’s a player who we believe will not only thrive within the club-wide game model and our player development strategy, but also enhance the depth of talent we have in the 2023/24 season.”
The defender featured on the bench for Arsenal against Wolves last season, showing the faith that Mikel Arteta had in the youngster.
He has been a regular in the Gunners’ youth teams for years and offers versatility, being able to deputise as a defensive midfielder.
If his development continues as it had at Arsenal, Awe could be part of the first team picture soon enough.
