Southampton forward Che Adams has been subject to a bid from Everton, with Russell Martin confirming the offer had been made.

Saints’ boss, Martin, has spoken out about Adams while his side prepare to play Plymouth Argyle.

There had been rumours of a deal earlier in the window which came to an abrupt end.

Now it appears a bid from Sean Dyche’s side has come within the past 24 hours.

The Scottish striker has made two substitute appearances this season, scoring on both occasions.

Despite his goalscoring exploits he hasn’t started a game, pointing towards a move away potentially.

What has Russell Martin said about Che Adams?

A move was on the agenda for Adams with Russell saying: He’s had less minutes at the start of the season than Armstrong.

“At the time it looked like he would be going elsewhere but that just stopped and didn’t happen.”

The Saints’ boss was full of praise for the striker and what he adds to the team.

Talking about the chance of a move Martin said: “He found himself out of the team for that reason. He’s a really good player and his energy has been great so I’d be gutted to lose him.

He made it clear that he would miss the former Birmingham City man, but could be beneficial for the club in some aspects: “If he goes it will be for a sum of money that the club deem appropriate.

“Money which can presumably mean we can replace him with”

There is a contingency plan then if Adams leaves the club.

Despite this option, it appeared that if there was a chance to keep the striker, he would: “You want to keep some players and some players are real value in terms of character.

“We have to be prepared if we do lose him and I think we will be.”

Martin ended his thoughts about the situation saying: “All being well, he will still be here in two weeks’ time and if he’s not we will have someone else in the door that we are happy with.”

The Southampton manager doesn’t believe that he is irreplaceable, but understands having a consistent and top class squad gives his side the best chance of promotion.
