Southampton are taking an interest in signing Sunderland forward Ross Stewart and have submitted two bids to see him arrive at St Mary’s.

Southampton look set to lose Che Adams this summer after he was left out of the match-day squad recently.

Therefore they have turned their attention to signing a new striker who can fire them back to the Premier League.

Having missed out on Joel Piroe who has joined Leeds from Swansea, Southampton have looked further north for their number nine.

Specifically they have decided to head to the Stadium of Light to sign Scottish International Ross Stewart who is currently injured with an achilles injury.

Saints bidding for Stewart

Southampton are said to have launched a bid to sign Scotland striker Ross Stewart.

According to Sky Sports, the Saints had a £4million bid rejected by the Black Cats on Tuesday.

Following this they have gone back with an improved offer worth £6m with and additional £1.5m.

Stewart is believed to be very open to the move, and is due to have his contract expire next summer and has already declared he won’t be signing a new contract.

Stewart has the Championship goalscoring record which Southampton desire in order to guarantee their promotion this season.

The Scot has 10 goals in 13 Championship games for Sunderland which is a remarkable record which could have been better had he not been hindered by injuries.

He is also proven at League One level where he scored 26 goals in 57 for the Black Cats.
