Gary Neville gives Liverpool advice over Romeo Lavia chase

This summer for the Saints has been dominated by the discussions over a departure for one player.

Liverpool have spent the past few months courting Romeo Lavia over a potential move to Anfield.

With two bids flat out rejected for Lavia already, Southampton have held strong at a £50m valuation.

Now there is talk of a £45m bid going in which again will likely be rejected as Southampton don’t want to sell.

The poor negotiating from Liverpool has left them now just days from the Premier League’s kick-off, without a defensive midfielder.

Selling both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson without securing any replacement.

Therefore it is likely that they panic this week and pay the valuation that the Saints are so keen to receive.

However now Gary Neville has suggested that Liverpool are wrong to continue their chase for Lavia.

Neville suggests Liverpool shouldn’t sign Lavia

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville discussed his views on the Lavia and Liverpool transfer saga.

He said:

“But they’re not. They’re trying to pinch someone off Southampton for 40 million quid [Romeo Lavia], who’s a good player don’t get me wrong, but Jurgen Klopp needs the real deal.

“They can’t challenge Manchester City with a player who’s got potential, they need to do it with a player who’s real.

“I do think it’s going to come back on the owners at some point.”

This would lead to some happy men at St. Mary’s if Liverpool were to heed the advice from Neville.

Interestingly Jamie Carragher also thought Liverpool should move on as their reluctance to pay the asking price makes him think he isn’t the guy.
