Southampton are set for another pre-season match as they prepare for the upcoming campaign in the Premier League.

Southampton have been working hard in recent weeks as Russell Martin looks to build his first-team squad’s fitness for the coming season.

The Saints begin their 2024/25 Premier League campaign on August 17th versus Newcastle United.

The South Coast outfit’s pre-season preparation for the upcoming season kicked off on Friday, July 19th, with a 7-1 hammering of Eastleigh.

Southampton have since faced much tougher opposition in their following two games but the results have been positive.

Martin guided his team to a 3-1 victory over Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux on Wednesday, July 24th.

This was followed by another win over French opposition three days later, with the Saints securing a 3-2 win against Montpellier.

Southampton team news

In a boost for Southampton, they do not currently have any injury issues going into the Oxford game.

Instead, the match will be focused around building fitness ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

A number of new signings are expected to be given a runout during the tie, with as many as 22 players set to feature.

Speaking ahead of the game, Martin suggested he will take two different elevens to Oxford with most players likely to be handed minutes.

He said: “I think we’ll take two 11s and then the minutes will be a bit different to how they have been so far.

“Over the two games, most will get on the pitch. I think it will become apparent and evident which ones are probably going to be involved more than others.”
