Southampton are one of several clubs interested in a striker who has earned comparisons to Sergio Aguero and has been praised by Erling Haaland.
It has been a summer of change at St Mary’s so far, with 10 new first-team players already through the door.
Russell Martin faces the difficult task of keeping Southampton in the Premier League following their promotion in 2023/24.
The Saints have signed a mix of players in the current window. Young assets like Nathan Wood have joined the club alongside veteran stars such as former Southampton man, Adam Lallana.
Southampton are showing no signs of slowing down their summer business either.
Southampton saw a £14m bid for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley rejected last week but a deal still appears to be on the cards.
Ben Brereton Diaz also underwent a medical for the South Coast team on Monday ahead of a transfer.

Southampton interested in Youssoufa Moukoko
After the deal for Diaz is wrapped up, Southampton are expected to target another centre-forward.
One player the club could look to sign to fill this role is Borussia Dortmund hitman, Youssoufa Moukoko.
According to journalist Patrick Berger, writing on X/Twitter, Moukoko wants to leave Dortmund in the current window.
It is unknown if the transfer would be a loan or permanent switch but the player would ideally like to leave the Bundesliga.
Southampton are ‘interested’ in the ‘talented striker’ but face competition from Girona, Real Betis, Sevilla, Real Sociedad, and Stade Rennais.
Youssoufa Moukoko praised by Erling Haaland and compared to Sergio Aguero
Moukoko joined BVB’s youth ranks in 2016 and began to make a name for himself four years later.
The then-15-year-old began training with the German outfit’s first team in 2020.
After making a name for himself with Dortmund, Erling Haaland, a former BVB star, stated he had never seen a 15-year-old as good as the German, as per the Daily Mail.
He said: “He’s a lot better than I was when I was 15. He trains at Borussia Dortmund and keeps up.
“I was in my home club, Bryne FK, when I was 15. You can’t compare that.
“But it’s hard when he’s that good. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 15-year-old that good.”
The now 19-year-old is an agile, intelligent striker with his style of play earning him a comparison to another Manchester City forward, Sergio Aguero, as per the Bundesliga official website.
After such a promising start to his senior career, Moukoko’s form has dropped off a bit over the last year – scoring five in 20 league games in 2023/24.
However, he still has plenty of potential and Southampton snapping him up would be a major coup.
Che Adams was the Saints’ second-top scorer last term but now needs replacing after he joined Torino on a free transfer.
Moukoko may still be a teenager but he has 99 senior appearances under his belt already, including 12 in the Champions League.
Signing a player of his potential is not something Southampton will have the chance to do too often and Martin must do everything in his power to try and get a deal done.
