The timeframe for Russell Martin’s potential sacking has been revealed.
Southampton have had a fairly poor start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, with them going into the second international break of the campaign without a single win.
Sitting 19th in the table with just one point in seven games, the pressure very much is piling on Russell Martin, who clearly hasn’t succeeded up until this point with the Saints since the start of the season.
There have been some bright sparks in-and-around the side, especially with Tyler Dibling proving to be a revelation on the right-wing, whilst new signing Yuki Sugawara has also shown moments of brilliance from wing-back.
Ultimately, the majority of the side have not been up to scratch, and Southampton’s hierarchy may act proactively to seek a change, with the timeframe of a potential sacking reportedly being revealed.

Russell Martin given impending timeframe to save his Southampton job
Following the successive Southampton defeats against both Arsenal and Bournemouth, Martin is running out of time to save his job on the South Coast due to the fact that his side has accumulated just the one point, alongside Wolves at the bottom of the table.
Per Football Insider, Southampton boss Martin will reportedly have the Leicester City game following the international break to save his job, with the game being described as ‘pivotal’ for his chances at keeping the Premier League role.
Their upcoming opponents Leicester City have also endured a difficult start to proceedings after achieving promotion alongside the Saints, however they have tallied one win so far which came against fellow strugglers Bournemouth.

Russell Martin must issue major change up for Leicester City clash
There is no doubting that Martin’s tactics up until this early stage in the campaign have not worked, and replicating the successes of the 2023/24 Championship season have quite simply not been possible.
The short and intricate passing model as the side sit and wait for an opening may have worked against unreliable Championship defences, but it has not been repeated this time out, and Southampton must quite simply look to play much more direct as they face fellow struggling side Leicester City.
Dibling is one key player who must be utilised and it will be highly beneficial if they can play to his strengths, and if they do this then they could seriously cause Leicester City’s defence problems.
The time for Martin to be perched upon his high horse is not now, and the tactics that clearly haven’t worked must be ditched in order to increase the likelihood of his tenure lasting.
