Southampton youngster Sam Amo-Ameyaw has voiced his hopes of playing for England at the upcoming, Under 17s World Cup.

Last time out Amo-Ameyaw was left out of the squad that travelled to Hungary for the European Championships.

The Under 17s side made it to the World Cup in Indonesia by defeating Switzerland in a playoff match.

The Saints youngster has recently been called up to the England Under 18s squad following his top performances so far this season.

Given his form, you would hope that he will have enough to be on the plane come November.

Who is Sam Amo-Ameyaw?

He is an attacker with an eye for goal and is happy to play anywhere along the front line if needed.

His first season with Southampton saw him feature for both the U18s and U21s despite only being 16-years old.

The Englishman scored a brace in the final game of the PL2 season which ultimately secured the title for the Saints.

In spite of his young age, he has made his first team and Premier League debut. Coming on against Liverpool on the final day of last season.

He signed a professional contract at St Mary’s in July so will be featuring regularly in no time.

What has Sam Amo-Ameyaw said?

It is testament to Amo-Ameyaw that he is featuring at so many different levels, given his age.

The youngster has featured for the Under 17s, 18s and 21s already and despite pushing for first-team football, a World Cup call-up would be huge.

Speaking on that, he said: “There’s another camp coming up. A few weeks after this camp it’s the Under-17 World Cup. Hopefully, I can also get myself into that.”

Missing out on the EUROs has clearly spurred on the attacker to get into the latest squad.

Showing that, he added: “I just have to keep pushing with the Under-21s or the first team, whichever it is, and keep showing my capabilities.”

A top mentality that will serve him well moving forward for the Saints and internationally.
