Southampton fans waxed lyrical over the performance of Aaron Ramsdale after he helped his side secure their first victory of the season.

Russell Martin’s men entered their clash against Everton without a win in their opening nine games, as Southampton sat bottom of the Premier League table.

It was dubbed a must-win clash for the Saints and they finally delivered at St Mary’s, with Adam Armstrong’s 85th-minute winner proving the difference between the two sides.

Armstrong’s first goal of the season was invaluable, as it pushed Saints onto four points, three adrift of safety.

However, Southampton had goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to thank for keeping a clean sheet after he produced a stunning performance against the Toffees.

Southampton fans left in awe of Aaron Ramsdale vs Everton

Ramsdale was captured for £25 million from Arsenal in the summer and he’s endured a tough start to his Saints career.

Southampton are constantly put under pressure by the opposition and there is often little he can do to prevent them from conceding.

Against Everton however, Ramsdale produced a superhuman display, as he made several top saves, including the one where he showed great reflexes to get down low and deny Michael Keane.

The 26-year-old truly showed why Southampton paid a lot of money to bring him to the club in the summer, and supporters were awestruck by his performance.

“Can’t explain how massive it is to have a keeper that has a bit of aura and character about him. Very good shot-stopper, underrated with his feet and will be a huge addition over the course of this season. Really pleased for him with his first clean sheet,” one fan said.

“So pleased for Rambo. His first clean sheet for us…. And that save was just unbelievable,” another commented.

“Ramsdale could make the difference for us this season. Massive performance,” a third added.

One supporter even suggested that Ramsdale should return to England reckoning, perhaps even replacing Jordan Pickford as the number one.

“Aaron Ramsdale, England No1,” one person replied.

“It’s saves like this, as a keeper, that you feel you’re earned a win for your team. Top save and one he will know won his team two points and will give him no end of confidence,” another added.

Aaron Ramsdale is crucial in Southampton’s survival hopes

Every team at the bottom needs a top-drawer goalkeeper who can help them win points by making world-class saves.

Ramsdale did exactly that in the win over Everton, and this should give him a new-found confidence to keep further clean sheets.

The Englishman was previously used to being on the winless side most weeks however, this victory would have tasted so sweet for the goalkeeper, especially after how his career ended at Arsenal.

For the Saints to stand any chance of staying in the Premier League, Ramsdale will need to continue performing at the same level he did on Saturday.
