Southampton’s new signing has talked about his excitement to get going and his expectations for the upcoming season.

Ryan Manning signed a four year deal for the Saints last week following his contract’s expiry at Swansea earlier this month.

The 27-year-old turned down interest from across the Championship and Premier League to sign with his former manager Russell Martin at St Mary’s.

Manning is coming off the best season of his career as he contributed five goals and 10 assists under Martin for the Welsh side.

Now both player and coach are reunited at Southampton, the two have a clear target, with Premier League promotion viewed.

Manning has since his arrival mentioned that linking up with his former manager was a huge reason behind his choice of joining the Saints.

Manning told the Daily Echo that, “I think the manager coming in was a big factor,”.

Manning makes bold claim for season

Hampshire Live have reported that Manning has his eyes on bringing Southampton back to the Premier League immediately.

He said: “There was Premier League interest but this felt right for me and it was my gut feeling on things. Coming here was definitely what I wanted to do.”

Manning continued that, “I want to get promotion from the Championship into the Premier League and I think there is no better club to be at than here for that.”

He concluded that he sees Southampton as in prime position to secure a return to the top flight this season.

“I think with the club as it is and all the players in the building, it’s everyone’s aim to get back to the Premier League as quickly as possible. With the style of football, the manager and everything, it gives us the best chance of doing that.”
