Southampton striker Che Adams has praised manager Russell Martin for how he has been since his arrival in the summer.

Martin arrived from fellow Championship side Swansea City in June and has led Southampton to fourth place in the second tier so far, with them being eight points off the automatic promotion spots.

Martin has previously had managerial experience at Milton Keynes Dons before his stint at the Swans.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Adams has hailed Martin for the great job he has done at Saints so far this season.

“Credit to him. He came in during a hard time and with all the changes. It’s been amazing. We lost our flow a little earlier in the season, maybe with the team changing and players being sold, but we have worked hard, worked smart to get through that. The club is on the up. The gaffer is pushing us towards promotion and that is the focus.”

Good to hear Martin receive praise from fringe players

After a difficult start, which included four consecutive losses in September (which left them in 15th place), Martin has led Saints on an eight-game unbeaten run in the Championship, which has put Saints into a promotion push.

Adams had a great start to the season, scoring in each of Saints first three Championship games, but had failed to score since, with Adam Armstrong taking the limelight.

The Scotland international has been mooted for a move in January to Wolves, with Martin not giving him much game time.

Despite this though, it is still good to see that Martin is receiving high praise from the players that are on the fringes of the squad.
