Southampton will be looking to get their first points on the door of the season against Brentford.
The Saints will be hoping that they can put an end to two defeats on the bounce in their opening Premier League fixtures, both of which they were unable to find the net once.
On the opening day of the 2024/25 campaign, Southampton were caught out after Alex McCarthy gave the ball away, which the Newcastle United attack took advantage of, leading to Joelinton scoring the only goal of the game.
Since McCarthy’s shaky start, Southampton have made the statement Deadline Day signing of Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal for £25million, and the shot-stopper could potentially feature in the Saints’ third Premier League game of the season against Brentford.
It will be a tricky task for Southampton away from home, however it certainly is a strong chance for Russell Martin’s side to get points on the board, and former Watford striker Troy Deeney believes they will do so.

Troy Deeney gives Southampton score prediction but warns of one thing
Southampton will certainly not be hoping for a repeat of their first two fixtures, and Deeney believes that the Saints will finally come away with a point away at Brentford.
Deeney said on TikTok in relation to Southampton’s upcoming fixture: “I think this game will have goals in it. Southampton actually play some good stuff, but they are going to get caught out playing from the back.
“They have signed Ramsdale as well, so they should be a little bit better playing out from the back.
“I am going for a draw. Both teams to score. 1-1.”
Will Aaron Ramsdale make a difference for Southampton playing out from the back
It is fairly evident that this fixture could easily be swayed depending on who will be starting in-between the sticks for Martin’s side.
Away from shot-stopping, Southampton put a lot of emphasis on playing out from the back, and as shown against Newcastle United, it can sometimes prove to be detrimental to their success.
However, if Ramsdale is able to come in and start for the Saints, there is every chance that he could make a significant difference for Southampton against Brentford and for the season ahead.
Ramsdale is certainoy very calm and collected when on the ball and perfectly suits the system that Martin has set up, and there is no doubt that the signing will prove to be a success.
Of course the former Arsenal shot-stopper may be somewhat low on confidence, but a successful stint away at Brentford could provide the necessary foundations for Ramsdale to build on and becoming a brilliant asset to this Southampton side.
