Predicting Southampton’s next five Premier League scores as Russell Martin looks to save job

Add as preferred source on Google

Southampton have struggled since their return to the Premier League with manager Russell Martin yet to earn a first top flight win.

In fact, Southampton have just one point from their seven Premier League fixtures so far, with that coming in the 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich Town.

It was a much-improved performance last time out against Arsenal despite the 3-1 defeat, but Southampton now desperately need points on the board.

Russell Martin is starting to feel the pressure already with the Saints 19th in the table and the next five games could well decide his fate.

With that in mind, we’ve predicted Southampton’s next five league games.

Southampton 2-1 Leicester City (October 19th)

Southampton simply have to beat Leicester City at home in their next match and Martin should draw on the battling display at Arsenal for encouragement.

Saints will dominate possession and need to make it count, but a first clean sheet will not be forthcoming.

Manchester City 4-0 Southampton (October 26th)

Another reason it is vital to beat Leicester is the fact Southampton travel to Champions Manchester City the following weekend.

This is as tough as it gets in the Premier League and City could really feast pressing high against Southampton as they try and play out from the back.

Southampton 1-1 Everton (November 2nd)

The Saints know that the City game is something of a free hit, but Everton at home the week after is anything but that.

Everton have turned around their poor start to the season and are unbeaten in their last three games so will provide tough opposition and will likely be difficult to break down at St Mary’s.

Wolves 2-2 Southampton (November 9th)

Currently, Wolves are the only side to suffer a worse start to the Premier League season than Southampton.

Gary O’Neil’s side also have just one point but have conceded a quite astonishing 21 goals in their seven games.

They have scored nine goals, so that is not the problem for Wolves, and both sides’ leaky defences could well be exposed.

Southampton 1-3 Liverpool (November 24th)

We predict Southampton to start picking up points on this run but that ends against Liverpool in late November.

The Reds have started the season in fine form under Arne Slot and should have too much firepower for the Saints.
