Manchester City youngster James McAtee appears to be looking towards a Premier League move despite interest from Southampton
The Saints have been interested in the attacking midfielder as they try to prepare for life without James Ward-Prowse.
Reported by Alan Nixon, Sheffield United hold strong interest in resigning the City youngster who was on loan at Bramall Lane last year.
It appears Pep Guardiola would prefer him to join a top half Premier League team or a Bundesliga side.
What would James McAtee add to Southampton?
Let’s imagine the deal happens, he’ll be a key cog in the Russell Martin machine this season.
An attack minded midfielder who isn’t adverse to tracking back and getting involved defensively.
Dribbling is his key ability, being able to drive forward and go past men like they aren’t even there.
His ability to pick a pass is top class also, a characteristic of many Manchester City youngsters.
Last season he helped to get the Blades promoted with nine goals and three assists in 37 league appearances.

Stuart Armstrong and Charly Alcaraz provide an attacking threat, the addition of McAtee could take the Saints’ goal output to another level.
His ability to play as, almost, a second striker could be of use, flying in tandem with Adam Armstrong drifting forward, could be impactful.
Despite it not looking likely, if it can be pushed through, it would be a statement signing, even on loan.
If he doesn’t sign, there are high quality players in a similar position to McAtee.
Russell Martin will get performances out of these players this season.
