Southampton attacked Carlos Alcaraz is being priced out of a move away.

According to journalist Dean Jones, who spoke to Givemesport, Southampton have valued Alcaraz at £25 million, as they want to keep their remaining key players after a mini exodus this summer.

“Alcaraz has been priced out of a move at this point,” Jones said. “I think that’s why there hasn’t been a lot of interest around him.

“I was told they were looking for around £25 million if he was going to be considered to go, and I think that deterred a lot of the suitors so far.

“But ultimately, if they can keep Nathan Tella, if they can keep Alcaraz, then it helps make up for the loss Ward-Prowse and Lavia, and certainly makes sure that Saints are in that promotion mix at the end of the season.”

Alcaraz was one of Southampton’s shining lights in the second half of last season so it comes as no surprise that Saints value him so highly.

Southampton have lost of their best players from last season, with the likes of the aforementioned James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia departing, along with Tino Livramento and Mohammed Salisu.

If they are to mount a promotion charge, they need to keep hold of what they have left. Southampton have started the season well, as they are in fifth place in the Championship after winning two and drawing one of their opening three games, however were knocked out of the League Cup in a surprise defeat to Gillingham.

There is still expected to be departures from St Mary’s, with the likes of Che Adams also rumoured to be leaving.
