Southampton could quickly follow up their Deadline Day move for Aaron Ramsdale with a second deal in quick succession.

Russell Martin will be delighted to welcome Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton, with the £25 million deal signalling the club’s intent to stay in the Premier League.

However, Southampton are keen to continue their business after Ramsdale became the 12th first-team signing of the summer.

Attacking players are now the priority and we could still see one or two added to Saints’ ranks before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Southampton close to agreeing Ryan Fraser signing

Maxwel Cornet of West Ham is one of the wingers Southampton are reportedly keen to bring in, with a loan move most likely.

He may not be the only forward added though, as last season’s loanee Ryan Fraser now looks to be closing in on a return to St Mary’s on a permanent basis.

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam, who posted on X: “Southampton are getting closer to agreeing a deal with winger Ryan Fraser after he agreed a deal in principle to leave Newcastle.

“There are still some final details for Fraser to iron out with Newcastle but he could become Southampton’s second Deadline Day signing.”

Fraser signing could be Samuel Edozie replacement at Southampton

At the beginning of the summer it looked merely a formality that Fraser would sign for Southampton permanently this summer.

The 30-year-old winger was an important member of the Saints squad that earned promotion and it was clear the Scotland international had no future at Newcastle.

Few expected it to drag on this late into the window and a move for Fraser seemed dead until this latest update.

This move could mean Samuel Edozie is allowed to leave on loan in order to continue his development in the Championship.

The youngster has struggled to make an impact so far this season and bringing in a reliable performer in Fraser could mean Edozie is able to get invaluable regular football.
