Romeo Lavia was absent from Southampton’s matchday squad for their first round Carabao Cup loss to Gillingham.
Liverpool have been chasing the 19-year-old midfielder’s signature all summer and, with the Belgian being left out of the Saints’ squad, could a transfer be happening sooner rather than later?

Liverpool have to pay £50 million for Romeo Lavia
The reds have had multiple bids turned down by Russell Martin’s side, with the asking price of £50 million yet to be matched.
Lavia has been absent from training for over 24 hours and was not included in the travelling squad away to Gillingham
Belgium football expert, Sacha Tavolieri, has reported that the player’s side are looking to close a deal between the clubs as they are getting restless.
With Liverpool losing both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in quick succession, the Mersyside outfit may look to get this deal done quickly.
What is Romeo Lavia good at?
Lavia is a progressive midfielder, and a good one at that. He was able to show off his talents in a faltering Saints side last season so in a team fighting for Europe he could be even better.
When players like Kevin De Bruyne are talking you up saying: “If he continues his development, I think he will be a top player,” you’re doing something right.
If Liverpool don’t stump up and pay the asking price, Martin has a top young talent on his hands who will almost definitely flourish in the Championship.
With the influence of agents and other parties on Lavia’s side trying to push this deal, it is likely it will get done in the coming days or weeks.
