The Southampton winger has not been able to live up to life in the Premier League so far.

The Saints currently have two losses in as many games to kick off the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, and there have already been players standing out as a result of struggling at the top level.

There will certainly be questions to ask at this early stage with Southampton still being yet to score a goal this season in the opening two fixtures, with the first coming against a Newcastle United side that was predominantly down to 10-men after Fabian Schar was handed a red card.

As a result, questions have been asked over Southampton attacker Adam Armstrong and his physical abilities, as well as midfielder Will Smallbone, who was disappointing in the home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Another attacker struggled after being brought on against Nottingham Forest, and as a result it has left Russell Martin with a decision to make over him and whether he should be part of the squad for the 2024/25 season.

Russell Martin faces key decision over Southampton winger Samuel Edozie

Southampton’s Samuel Edozie struggled, particularly in terms of end product, against Nottingham Forest, and he was also unable to make a significant impact away at Newcastle United when brought off the bench.

The Saints winger is just 21-years-old and a season in the Premier League that will involve fairly minimal time on the pitch, as well as very little chance for him to boost his confidence in front of goal will certainly be far from beneficial for him.

At this point, Martin should be considering whether it will be more beneficial for Edozie that a loan move is sanctioned for the winger, and if he has the ability to compete at this level, despite his early performances.

A Championship loan could be crucial for Samuel Edozie’s development

At this moment, Edozie has certainly not shown enough evidence of earning a Premier League start anytime soon, and if he is just being utilised from off the bench, it may make more sense for a Championship loan to be sanctioned.

Not only will Edozie get guaranteed gametime in the Championship, he will also have a platform where he can pick up his confidence, with it being a lower level.

It would be massively beneficial for Edozie at this moment in his career to not punch above his weight in regards to playing at a level where he is unable to perform, and for all parties it makes sense for him to depart the club in a loan move to a lower level for the season.
