Southampton star could now leave in January – Journalist

Southampton striker Che Adams looked set to leave St Mary’s on multiple occasions during the summer transfer window.

He had been linked with the likes of Everton and Wolves in the summer, and had recently been touted by a journalist for a potential move in January.

But a move for the Scotland international to the Premier League might still be on the cards.

Journalist wouldn’t rule move out move for striker to Wolves

Wolves correspondent for The Athletic, Steve Madeley, said in his mailbag on Tuesday morning that he would not rule out a move for Che Adams to Molineux in January, but believes it is unlikely.

“I wouldn’t rule it out entirely but I don’t believe he will be the first-choice option. Missing out on Adams in the summer was a blow for Wolves but the positive is that it gave the recruitment team more time to research alternatives, and I suspect they will have a bigger list to choose from in January, hopefully with some more exciting and cost-effective options on it.”

Losing Adams could be a blow

Saints losing Adams would be a blow for manager Russell Martin.

Despite not reaching the goal scoring heights many would have expected him to by now, by no means has he been playing badly.

The 27-year-old has played a part in nine of Saints’ eleven Championship games, scoring three times and assisting twice.

Despite playing in nine games though, he has only started five of those.

It has been Adam Armstrong that has been banging in the goals up front, scoring seven so far this season.

So if Premier League clubs do come knocking in the January window, it would be hard to see why Adams would turn that down.

It would also help his chances of getting back into the starting lineup for Scotland, after being dropped in recent games in favour of QPR striker Lyndon Dykes, who started ahead of him against Spain on Thursday evening.
